Club des Petits Dejeuners

Club des Petits Dejeuners from Montreal, an organization that provides breakfast food for many schools throughout Quebec has chosen Ikusik and Pigiurvik Schools in Salluit to become a part of their team. The organization provides nutricious foods such as fresh fruit, fresh whole wheat bread and cereals, fruit cups, and orange juice just to name a few. This food is flown to Salluit by cargo plane every week.

The Ikusik Breakfast Club currently provides a hot and cold breakfast for approximately 100 students from both Ikusik and Pigiurvik Schools. Our motto is ``all are welcomed``, we do not turn away anyone. There is a great need for this program in Salluit.

Our weekday menu consists of multi grain Cheerios, corn bran cereal, whole wheat toast, fresh orange juice, chocolate milk and milk, a variety of nutricious yogurts, cheeses, fruit cups, eggos, fresh fruit such as bananas, apples and oranges, pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches and we try and offer sausages and eggs on some Fridays.

Kids Love to Cook

Because of the generous funding provided by Qaqqaik Landholding Corporation, teachers are encouraged to purchase food from the local Co op store and engage their students in cooking classes. These cooking classes provide students with valuable skills and also allows them to eat what they make.

Our Volunteers

We could not run this program if we did not have the help and support of our wonderful volunteers who offer their time every moring to help out in the kitchen. I would like to personally thank  Andre Maisonneuve, Julie Gervais, Valerie Ducharme, Roger El Riyachy, Carol Chasse, Matt Cameron, Mary Kaitinak, Monique Chretien, Tanya Hynes, Carmen Delapeta and our principal, Stephan Doyon and the IPL students for making this project work.

Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation

Thank you to Willie Keatainak, President of Qaqqalik Landholding Corporation and the board members for supplying the funds for this much needed project.

Thank you to everyone!

Jean Louis Berthiaume, James Walker and Paul Maggiolo
