Attuliit

The concept of a thrift store was chosen so that both male and female students would have an oppourtunity to get involved in the design and operation of a local business. School curriculum, along with valuable organizational, merchandising and business skills would be learned using the store as a teaching tool. In turn, the store has also evolved into a place where low income families can purchase new and used household items.

"The community has been very supportive; families now call us when they have things to donate or bring their goods to the store when they come to shop."

Profits

100% of the profits from Attuliit are used to keep the store running and more importantly, help finance much needed school trips for IPL students in Salluit. In the past, IPL learners were often bypassed from taking part in school trips. The time has come to change negative stereotypes and make IPL an equal partner with all secondary levels.

In April of 2008, IPL students were able to travel to Ottawa and Montreal thanks, in part, to the profits generated from the store. This facility has become a valuable educational tool. Students are operating and maintaining a small business on their own. Student pride in ownership has allowed them to see how a little imagination and a lot of hard work does lead to success.
